Civil War Primary Source Work:

What is a primary source? It is an artifact, a document, a recording, or other source of information that was created at the time under study.

Read one of the following primary sources and...
  • adapt the primary source into an 8 pane comic ...or...
  • write a three paragraph response to the letter. Assume the role of the person that received the letter. Write your response from the recipients perspective.

Oregon Trail Diary Assignment

Play Oregon Trail Game (1980s) - Role Play - write journal (primary source) about your experience. Get into character. Try not to simply list the events that occur. A diary/journal shows feelings and thoughts. It is not a grocery list.


How to play game:
  1. Follow the link above
  2. Read the Directions during the game. Pay close attention to the advice the game gives you. BUY ENOUGH SUPPLIES or you will die.
  3. Every 5 minutes, take a 4 minute writing break.

Read the excerpt from "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow." Rewrite the ending or create a comic strip that illustrates the excerpt. You may not use stick figures and you're art must be historically accurate. 8 tiles. Sleepy Hollow read aloud on YouTube (start at 1:03:15).
